Assemblies are an important part of school life, bringing our whole school community together to learn, reflect, celebrate and share. Our assembly programme is carefully planned to help children develop their understanding of themselves, others and the wider world.
Throughout the year, assemblies explore a broad range of themes, including safeguarding, wellbeing, positive relationships, British values and staying safe. Children also learn about different religions, faiths and cultures, helping them to appreciate diversity, show respect for others and develop an understanding of different beliefs and traditions.
Our assemblies also respond to important events and celebrations in England and across the world, giving children opportunities to learn about significant occasions, festivals, national events and global issues in an age-appropriate way. Alongside this, we celebrate achievements within our own school community and reinforce the values and behaviours that help make our school a happy, safe and inclusive place for everyone.
Together, our assemblies support children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, encouraging them to become thoughtful, respectful and responsible members of their community and the wider world. Music also plays an important role in our assembly programme. Each teaching week, a carefully selected piece of music is shared, giving pupils the opportunity to experience music from Britain and around the world. Through listening to a wide range of genres, styles and musical traditions, children broaden their musical knowledge and appreciation of different cultures and artistic expression. The chosen track is played as pupils enter assembly, creating a calm and purposeful atmosphere and providing opportunities for children to listen attentively, reflect and discuss elements such as instruments, rhythm, mood, voices and cultural context.
