Welcome from the SENCO

Here at Longtown Primary, we offer an inclusive education to all children. The school has a policy of early identification of needs and prides itself on the high-quality response it provides.

We aim to give our pupils, parents and families the strongest voice and actively collaborate together to provide the best possible provision for our pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Our staff are experienced in supporting pupils with specific conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and many more. We are fortunate to have a strong team of teaching assistants to facilitate specific programmes of intervention both in class and in small group support. Working together, we aim to help every child to reach their full potential.

We recognise and value the need for a full range of educational and pastoral support, and as such Cumbria Education Trust has a dedicated welfare team. In addition to our SENCO, Assistant SENCo and Learning Support staff this team includes: Education and Welfare Officers (EWOs), Family Learning Mentors, Safeguarding Officers, Family Connector Project and other specialists in the pastoral field.  We also have regular visits from a counsellor and have excellent links with outside agencies.

We are proud to have a dedicated Nurture Room within our school called ‘The Ark’ this has been designed to support emotional wellbeing and is used to deliver interventions across school including Lego therapy, drawing and talking, sensory circuits, emotion coaching and feeling detectives.

If you would like to make an appointment to discuss your child’s needs or find out more about the provision here at Longtown Primary, please telephone the school office on 01228 791203 or admin@longtownprimary.cumbria.sch.uk
