RESPECT. RESPONSIBILITY. RESILIENCE | Be the best you can be

School Vision

  1. Provide a stimulating, broad and rich curriculum through which children achieve excellence and enjoyment and are given every opportunity to progress towards their full potential.
  1. Create an environment that stimulates and promotes learning fit for the 21st century.
  1. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, and provide exciting and challenging opportunities to promote children’s personal and social development.

School Mission

  • To create a stable, caring and stimulating school environment
  • To provide a broad, balanced and relevant education for the children which is continuous and consistent across the school
  • To help the children be happy in school, experience success and feel a sense of satisfaction in work well done, thus increasing their self-respect and willingness to persevere to realise their full potential
  • To help children acquire the basic tools of learning – oracy, literacy and numeracy
  • To develop in the children lively, enquiring, imaginative and creative minds with the ability to question and argue rationally
  • To encourage children to become independent, adaptable, flexible, able to integrate in all social/work settings, as well as being both self-motivated and self-disciplined
  • To help the children acquire a reasoned set of moral values, attitudes and beliefs in which to help understand the world they live in and the interdependence of peoples and their environment.
  • To encourage in the children an aesthetic awareness, enjoyment of, and interest in the creative arts, developing their own natural skills and potential, through active participation
  • To develop in the children the importance of a healthy life style and allow them to take part in a wide range of physical activities, so that they recognise the need for such activity and its potential for enjoyment and fulfilment
  • To develop in the children the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a rapidly changing world of employment
  • To foster links between home and school so that we encourage parents to take an interest in their children’s education and the general life of the school

School Values

The school’ s values are used to inform our vision for school, prioritise our development work and dictate the day to day behaviour and decisions made by the staff of the school. These are the values that we strive to instil in all of the pupils that attend Longtown Primary School:

Ourselves: We value everyone as unique people, capable of spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical growth and development.

Relationships: We value others for themselves, not only for what they have or what they can do for us. We value our relationships as fundamental to the development and fulfilment of ourselves and others, and to the good of the community.

Society: We value truth, freedom, justice, human rights, the rule of law and working together for the good of everyone. In particular, we value families as sources of love and support for all their members, and as the basis of a society in which people care for others.

The Environment: We value the environment, both natural and man-made, as the basis of life and a source of wonder and inspiration.
