Welcome from the SENCO
At Longtown Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education for every child. We believe in the early identification of needs and take pride in the high-quality support and provision we offer.
We work closely with pupils, parents and families, valuing their voices and fostering strong partnerships to ensure the very best outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Our experienced staff support pupils with a wide range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. We are fortunate to have a skilled team of teaching assistants who deliver targeted interventions both in the classroom and through small-group support. Together, we are committed to helping every child achieve their full potential.
We recognise the importance of both educational and pastoral support. Through Cumbria Education Trust, we benefit from a dedicated welfare team alongside our SENCO, Assistant SENCO and Learning Support staff. This includes Education Welfare Officers (EWOs), Family Learning Mentors, Safeguarding Officers, the Family Connector Project and other specialist pastoral professionals. We also have regular access to a counsellor and maintain strong partnerships with a range of external agencies.
We are proud to have a dedicated School Inclusion Base, The Nest, which provides support for pupils with a range of SEND needs and promotes emotional wellbeing. The Nest is used to deliver interventions across the school, including Lego Therapy, Drawing and Talking, Sensory Circuits, Emotion Coaching and Feeling Detectives.
