Welcome to Year 6 McCartney Class!
This term our topic is The Victorians. Year 6 are very excited to start off with a trip to Beamish – where we will experience life as a Victorian school child for the day! Watch this space for pictures.
During this topic we will also have some special visitors from the University of Cumbria who are coming to school to run workshops in class about Carlisle in the Victorian Era.
In English we will be using the novel Street Child by Berlie Doherty, fitting in well with our Victorian Theme. During our Maths sessions we will focus on a range of number based problems, aiming to develop our mastery skills across the four operations.
Miss Smith is our teacher this year – and always available if you have any further questions. Speak to a member of staff today to find out how to view our ClassDojo page where we post daily updates of our curriculum work.
This half term (Summer 1 2018) Year 6 have enjoyed studying the question ‘Is there life out there?’, looking at Earth, Space and everything in between!
As our Maths and English lessons have focused on SATs preparation, the children have really enjoyed the project based approach to topic. For homework many pupils created 3D models, including a full model of the solar system!
As part of this unit we have read the novel ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cotterell-Boyce and even wrote some of our own ‘Longtown Conspiracy Theories’ .
In Science, the children have been learning all about polymer products (by far their favourite part of the topic) resulting in producing their very own slime.
Next half term our topic will be ‘London Calling’ preparing for our up-coming residential as well as learning about our capital’s rich history.
The Year 6’s half term highlight was receiving their leavers hoodies and celebrating the end of SATs week with a well-earned bowling trip!
