Welcome to Year 2 Beach!
Year 2 have had a wonderful start to the new school year and have shown a positive attitude towards their learning. Miss Archer was delighted to welcome them into their class, along with Miss Clulow in the mornings supporting their learning two afternoons per week. The classroom is a bright and supportive environment and a special place to be. The children have been earning lots of Dojo Points for their positive behaviour such as showing respect to others and being resilient learners.
In Maths, the children have worked hard on Place value and have been finding 10 more and 10 less than any number. They have also been counting forwards and backwards in 10s up to 100. The children have shown great independence through choosing to use different tools to support their understanding such as number squares and tens and ones dienes
In English, the children have enjoyed learning to recite and perform a poem using actions and excellent expression. They thoroughly enjoyed performing it to their peers. Following this, Year 2 will become poets themselves and learn to identify some of the key features of a poem and have a go at writing and editing their own!
This term Year 2 will begin their topic about The Tudors and cannot wait to find out about it!

Summer Term 2018
This half term (Summer 1, 2018) Year 2 have been working extremely hard. Our topic for summer term is ‘Why does it taste so good?’ The children have been fascinated learning all about chocolate and the history behind it. We had a tasting day, indulging in a variety of chocolate treats and rating them. We decided to design our own chocolate bar and created a wrapper. What great imaginations we have!
As our Maths and English lessons we have focused on SATs preparation. The children have showcased their skills and should be very proud of themselves. We can confidently apply the four calculations to real life problems and can even tell the time! We love playing our daily game of maths champions, we have cracked our 2,3,5 and 10 timetables and are now working on the corresponding division facts.
This half term we have wrote numerous pieces of writing, from instructions on how to make a chocolate bar, to a newspaper report on the royal wedding. The children are working extremely hard on their handwriting and the ingredients to make a perfect, polished piece of writing.
In Science, we have been learning all about plants and germination, we have carried out a couple of experiments and were shocked by our predictions.
Next half term, we will continue to learn about chocolate and in Science we will be learning about Animals and Humans. We are very excited for our trip to the Life Centre in Newcastle.
